Update on proposed roading changes to Dominion Road.Auckland Transport have recently released a Factsheet giving information on the proposed changes to Dominion Road to accommodate anticipated increased traffic levels. The document includes a timeline detailing the consultative, design and construction process where construction is envisaged to commence in late 2013 / early 2014. Over the next few months Auckland Transport are providing a preferred design option, which will then be communicated widely through open days, the Auckland Transport website and a newsletter. Significant changes have been made to the widely panned 2010 proposal. Chiefly, the key focus of the project has shifted form a 24 hour 'rapid transit corridor' to providing more of a balance between public transport and other users of Dominion Road.
Specific changes made include: Additionally bus lanes will be widened from 3m to 4.5 meters to allow cyclists to safely pass parked cars and alternative cycle routes in side streets on either side of Dominion Road will be developed. Boundary Extension Bid DefeatedRecently our Association sought to extend the official boundaries of our precinct in order to bring more cohesive approach to the protection and promotion of Dominion Road businesses. All of the shop owners and landlords in the area were widely consulted with, and despite apparent support, the vote was ultimately unsuccessful. Regardless of the result, we will continue to work with all retailers on Dominion Road to help build their businesses, and include them where practical in our various marketing and promotional activities.
